Retinopathy Stages
Understanding the severity levels detected by our AI model.
0
No DR
No signs of diabetic retinopathy. Continue regular regular eye examinations and maintain good blood
sugar control to prevent future onset.
1
Mild
Mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Small areas of balloon-like swelling in the retina's
blood vessels (microaneurysms) occur.
2
Moderate
Moderate non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Blood vessels that nourish the retina are blocked.
Some retinal hemorrhages may be present.
3
Severe
Severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. More blood vessels are blocked, depriving several
areas of the retina with their blood supply.
4
Proliferative DR
Proliferative diabetic retinopathy. New, abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina. These fragile
vessels can leak blood and lead to severe vision loss. Requires immediate treatment.
